Our own trailer pad   Clifton, VA Locate this campground with Google Earth $0.00 per night
Tonight was to be our first night out on our new five month trip. While we are ready to go, Mother Nature told us it is better to wait a day or two. At 1:00 pm we had about 3 inches of snow on the ground here in Clifton, Virginia. As the day progressed, we got more snow, sleet, rain and some freezing rain. The roads are probably clear just to the south, but why take the chance of sliding off a slippery highway while driving a rig that we have never driven in the snow before. So we will wait till tomorrow and see if we can leave then.

Wednesday, January 28 Well, last night the snow changed to sleet and freezing rain. Today the temperature got up just above freezing so the ice melted off the trees, but the driveway is a solid sheet of ice. We will try again for Thursday

Well we finally got on our way, except Tom slipped on the ice and hurt his back while trying to speed the packing. Hurry never speeds things up; it usually slows things down. He is doing fair, but very stiff. We are south of Richmond, Virginia at a fairly nice park. At least this time of year there are very few others in the campground which is the way we like it.

Kampers Lodge   Wilson, NC Locate this campground with Google Earth $35.00 per night
We decided to come further south and stop at Rocky Mount, NC where Frank was born. Frank had just recently digitized a bunch of slides from his early youth and of his father's boyhood home. We stoped by Frank's house, but no one was home. Going to the older home which Frank's grandfather had built there was someone home and he left them a USB flash drive with the photos on it. We drove through Wilson looking for a hardware store, but didn't find one where we drove.

Pedros Campground (South of the Border)   Dillon, SC Locate this campground with Google Earth $22.07 per night
Tom's back is improving, but he is very sore. We think he just bruised some muscles. We decided to try South of the Border. Years ago this place was a dive, but it appears they have improved a lot. Campground is fair, better than the ones we have stayed at so far this trip. We have been heading south until now. In the morning we will head West on I-20. As Dave Stamey puts it, It's the WEST!
