La Junta KOA   La Junta, CO Locate this campground with Google Earth $30.20 per night
New roads that we have never been on before for us today. Some nice scenery, bet it would be beautiful in the spring. Flat cow country with miles and miles of treeless plains and very few people most of the way. We stopped at a rest area for lunch and saw some interesting rock formations with a backdrop of about 100 wind turbine generators in the distance.   We began listening to a recorded book and got through the second disk before arriving at our campsite. The campground owner is big into horses and we met her riding her pony around the campground. They got loads of snow here last week but it is all melted and has left a bit of mud in places. Her pony was covered in mud, most horses love that.

Monday, November 2
This morning we received a Yahoo group email from some folks that competed in the rodeo a week ago that they had come down with the H1N1 flu. That got us a bit concerned so Tom called the local health department here in La Junta, Colorado and arranged to get a flu shot for Frank. The were very nice and we were in and out within a few minutes. Later we went for a visit to Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site. Locate with Google Earth This fort is quite different than most historic forts in that it was a trading center rather than a military fort.   Later in the evening we went to Village Inn nearby for dinner. Decent food at good prices.

Limon KOA   Limon, CO Locate this campground with Google Earth $33.89 per night
We headed northward across the plains of eastern Colorado today. Areas of fairly flat grasslands used for raising cattle. It's really quite beautiful but barren. As we neared Limon we had climbed to an elevation of 5,300 feet and we could see areas where the snows of last week were still visible in drifts.

Prospect RV Park   Wheat Ridge, CO Locate this campground with Google Earth $30.94 per night + electric
We have moved into the Denver area and setup the trailer for the next couple of months. We are in the site right next to our friends Dave and Jim and they will keep an eye on the trailer while we are back home. I guess we were excited but it took us four tries before we got the trailer level, a record for us. Normally we get it on the first try. In the late afternoon we walked in the park adjacent to the campground with Jim and their dog Andy   We went out to dinner with Dave to Village Inn. They have decent food but not great.

Thursday, November 5
We went to a favorite hardware store in Golden and picked up some thermostats to plug electric heaters into which will keep the trailer from freezing. In the evening we took Dave and Jim to White Fence Farms for dinner.

Friday, November 6
This evening Jim and Dave made dinner and we ate in our trailer. Fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Great food and great company.

Saturday, November 7
Some good rodeo friends who live north of Denver invited us to a dinner party. Larry is a gourmet chef and what a wonderful meal. You should see their kitchen. Some friends of theirs who came made a fantastic chocolate bread pudding that was to die for. The only problem was we got back to our trailer after 11:00 pm and we were tired.

Sunday, November 8
Frank spent the morning fine tuning the web operations he will use to webcast the IGRA Convention next weekend. Tom did laundry and went shopping.

Monday, November 9
We have decided that tomorrow, we will have our friend Dave drive us to a hotel near the airport where we will spend Tuesday night. Then we can take the hotel shuttle to the airport and not have to get up at 6 for a 10:30 flight. That will make everything much easier on Wednesday. In the evening we took Dave and Jim to Chad's restaurant.

Tuesday, November 10
This is our last entry for this trip. We are leaving the trailer in Denver under the care of our friends Dave and Jim. We will be flying to Toronto today for IGRA Convention. Then, next week, we will fly home for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. We will fly back to Denver on January 2 to continue our travels. Watch for our next travelogue entry, probably beginning on January 3. Have a good Thanksgiving, Christmas or any other holiday you may celebrate in the coming months.
