Take note that this is a true USB 2 camera with high speed transmission, but it only has a 640x480 image sensor.

With all the settings in automatic mode this camera has some serious problems in very bright light. However if you take it out of automatic mode and tinker with the various settings, this is a very good camera within the 640x480 resolution group.

As with all the new Logitech cameras, the controls are confusing. There are several ways to enter the setup screens and depending on which way you go in you are presented with different tabs and controls. My recommendation is to ignore the settings through your webcam software and use the Logitech tray icon to make adjustments. Make sure you investigate all the various buttons and tabs and experiment with all the control sliders. There are several different controls that effect exposure, brightness and contrast. To reach the exposure and gain controls, right click on the tray icon and chose Camera Settings. Then click the Driver Settings button and then the Advanced tab.

This camera, like its predecessor the 4000, does extremely well in low light. Clear, sharp, good color and fine tone range. If you want a camera for use in dark rooms, or for late night video chatting with nothing but your computer screen, or even just a night light, this is the one of choice.

The 5000 comes with Logitech's new bendable stand which is a very good design. It fits well on flat panel as well as CRT monitors or on a shelf or desktop. Unlike the Fusion, this camera can be separated from the stand but unfortunately it can not be mounted on a tripod, so there is really no advantage in snapping the camera off the stand.
